Obverse description Central shield bearing the Albani family arms of Pope Clement XI — a tower on a field — surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys, all set within an elaborate baroque wreath of oak and laurel branches. The composition is richly rendered in high relief, with foliate scrollwork framing the escutcheon. The circular Latin legend reads CLEMENS XI PONT M A III, denoting Clement XI, Pontifex Maximus, in the third year of his pontificate. Mintmaster initials appear in the lower field below the wreath.
