Obverse description Central device comprises the crowned electoral arms of Hessen-Kassel, depicted as a quartered shield surmounted by an elaborate electoral crown, flanked by two crossed sword hilts or sceptres at either side. The monogram initials 'W' and 'K' (for Wilhelm Kurfürst, i.e. William, Elector) appear in the field to the left and right of the crown respectively. The entire design is contained within a beaded border. The style is characteristic of early nineteenth-century German minor coinage, with a bold, deeply struck relief.
