Obverse description Central device features the Imperial German eagle displayed, with wings spread and head turned to the right, bearing the large heraldic shield on its breast depicting the Hohenzollern quartered arms with the Prussian eagle prominently rendered. The eagle is crowned with the Imperial crown and flanked by elaborate wing feathering in high relief. The mint mark letters 'A' and 'A' appear at the lower left and lower right of the field respectively, denoting the Berlin Mint. The overall design follows the large-shield type associated with the earlier Wilhelm II coinage series. The field is flat and unadorned, allowing the bold heraldic device to dominate the composition.
