Obverse description The Imperial German eagle displayed with wings outstretched, facing left, rendered in high relief. A shield on the eagle's breast bears a repeated version of the same eagle motif, surmounted by the Imperial crown with a ribbon below it. The Berlin Mint mark 'A' appears at the base of the design. A second mint mark 'A' is also present in the field, consistent with the pattern nature of this issue.
