Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a pointed shield bearing the quartered arms of the Palatinate — depicting a lion passant and diagonal bends — is shown in high relief. Above the shield, the initials 'lo' appear prominently in the field, referencing the issuing rulers. The design is characteristic of the small hammered bracteate-style pfennig coinage of the Upper Palatinate, with an irregular polygonal flan typical of the period.
