Additional information

Schneidemühl issued this zinc notgeld pfennig in 1917 as the German war economy systematically stripped copper and other base metals from civilian circulation. The city sits in what was then the Prussian province of Posen — territory awarded to the reconstituted Polish state in 1919 under the Treaty of Versailles, after which Schneidemühl itself was partitioned, with most of the city remaining German as part of the Grenzmark Posen-Westpreußen. The Funck reference numbers suggest at least two die or text variants exist for this type.
