| Obverse description | Central field depicting a rampant lion to the left, rendered in the crude hammered style typical of early seventeenth-century Bavarian billon coinage. The lion, the heraldic emblem of the Duchy of Bavaria, is shown with a raised forepaw and stylized mane details. The flan is small and irregularly shaped, consistent with hand-struck pfennig coinage of the period. The surface is worn and the design is struck off-center, with minimal to no surrounding legend. The overall artistic execution reflects the utilitarian character of low-denomination circulation coinage under Maximilian I. |
