| Obverse description | Quartered shield bearing the combined arms of Trier and Metternich, divided by a plain cross into four fields: the upper-left and lower-right quarters display the cross of Trier, while the upper-right and lower-left quarters bear the escallop shells of the Metternich family. The entire device is enclosed within a pearl circle. The initial letter 'L', denoting Archbishop Lothair of Metternich, appears above the shield in the upper field. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hammered issues of this period. |
