Additional information

Lothair Francis von Schönborn held simultaneously the seats of Bamberg and Mainz from 1695, making him one of the most powerful ecclesiastical princes in the Holy Roman Empire during this period. His Bamberg coinage was struck under that dual authority, and the pfennig denominations of this reign are notable for surviving in relatively intact condition — small silver fractions rarely circulated far from their issuing territory, and Bamberg's tight regional economy kept many pieces close to home.
