Obverse description The civic arms of Augsburg — a pine cone surmounting a small pedestal or base — displayed within a beaded or plain circular border, set against the flat klippe field. The pine cone, a longstanding symbol of the city of Augsburg, is rendered in a stylized, granular fashion typical of early sixteenth-century hammered coinage. Small pellets flank the arms within the circle.
