Additional information

John Frederick of Brandenburg-Ansbach ruled the margraviate from 1667 until his death in 1686, a period marked by cautious rebuilding after the devastation of the Thirty Years' War still lingered in Franconian finances. Tiny silver pfennig issues of this weight were struck largely to satisfy local transaction demands that larger denominations couldn't serve — but the margraviate's mint output was inconsistent, and surviving pieces from specific years are genuinely scarce.
