| Additional information |
Greppiner Werke was a chemical manufacturing complex in Greppin, Saxony-Anhalt, producing among other things brown coal derivatives and synthetic materials. Like many large German industrial employers during the WWI and early Weimar period, the firm issued its own notgeld coinage when state-minted small change became impossible to source — zinc was the compromise metal left after copper and nickel had been requisitioned for the war effort.
