| Reverse description | Central cross with ornamental or letter-form terminals at each arm, creating a decorative quartered field, with additional letters or pellets visible in the angles. A circular legend in uncial Latin script surrounds the cross device. The striking is irregular and typical of hand-hammered medieval bracteate-influenced pfennig coinage of the Franconian region. |

Gerhard of Schwarzburg held the See of Würzburg from 1372 until his death in 1400, a tenure marked by persistent friction with the city's burghers and ongoing disputes over episcopal authority that periodically disrupted normal economic life in the region. Small silver pfennigs of this period circulated primarily in local market transactions, rarely traveling far before being lost or hoarded.
The Ehwald reference places this squarely within a documented but thinly represented series — surviving examples attributable to Gerhard's episcopate are scarce relative to later Würzburg issues.
