Obverse description Within a decorative loop or ring, the conjoined or juxtaposed coats of arms of the Bishopric of Bamberg and the House of Schaumberg are displayed in low relief. Below the heraldic devices, the initial letter 'B' denotes the issuing city of Bamberg. The design is typical of late medieval German ecclesiastical bracteate-style pfennigs, struck by hand with irregular flan edges and flat fields. The overall die work is simple and bold, suited to the small module of this hammered silver piece.

Reverse description The reverse is uniface and entirely blank, as is characteristic of many small hammered pfennigs of the late medieval German ecclesiastical mints. The flat, unworked surface retains the natural texture of the hammered silver flan, with no design, legend, or device of any kind.
