Obverse description Central field features the crowned intertwined cypher of George I (Georg Ludwig), consisting of interlaced Gothic letters beneath a royal crown surmounted by a cross. The date is split to either side of the cypher, with '17' to the left and the final two digits to the right; the mint initials 'HH' appear in the lower field flanking the base of the cypher. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and bold relief typical of hammered coinage of the early 18th century.
