Additional information

Brandenburg-Ansbach and Brandenburg-Kulmbach were administered jointly by the Hohenzollern margrave Georg the Pious during the 1530s, a period in which he was actively promoting Lutheran reform across his territories — one of the first German princes to do so formally, following the 1528 church visitations he ordered. The tiny silver Pfennig issues of this period reflect the administrative consolidation of the two Franconian margravates under a single mint authority, a relatively brief window that ended with Georg's death in 1543.
