Frederick V ruled the Burgraviate of Nuremberg during a period of acute tension with the city of Nuremberg itself — a conflict that culminated in 1388 when the city's forces destroyed the burgraval castle on the hill above town. This coin was struck across precisely that window of deteriorating relations, which ended Frederick's direct control over the region and effectively closed this issue.
