Obverse description Central field dominated by the interlaced royal cypher of Frederick I of Prussia — a crowned script 'FR' (Fridericus Rex) monogram rendered in high relief beneath a royal crown. The denomination '1' and abbreviation 'PF' (Pfennig) flank the monogram at left and right respectively, while the date '1703' is inscribed across the lower field in two parts flanking the monogram. The mint-master's initials 'HFH' appear in the exergue below. The design is simple and utilitarian, consistent with small billon coinage of the early Prussian kingdom.
