Obverse description Central field displays the oval crowned shield of Saxony — barry of ten or and sable, charged with a bend of crancelin vert — set within a wreath of two crossed palm or laurel branches tied at the base. The royal crown, rendered with elaborate detail, surmounts the shield. No legend appears on this face; the design occupies the full field, bordered by a continuous beaded rim.

Reverse description The denomination and date are presented in three bold lines across the plain field: the numeral 'I' at the top, 'PFENNIG' in the centre, and the date '1816' below, with the mintmaster's initial 'S' and a stop appearing at the very foot of the field. The design is entirely typographic, without pictorial elements, and is enclosed by a beaded border matching that of the obverse.
