Obverse description Central field displays the quartered Saxon coat of arms — combining the alternating black and gold barry field with the green Rautenkranz diagonal — surmounted by a ducal crown. The shield is flanked on either side by olive branches tied at the base, with the mint mark 'B' and the date 1865 appearing below the wreath in the lower field. The encircling legend reads HERZOGTH. S. COB.-GOTHA, distributed around the upper periphery within a toothed border.
