Additional information

Struck during the brief co-regency of three Ascanian princes following the death of their father, this pfennig belongs to a period when Anhalt's ruling house was perpetually fracturing and reconsolidating territorial claims. Ernest I, Rudolph IV, and Wolfgang ruled jointly only from 1508 until Wolfgang's death in 1509, making the window for this issue exceptionally narrow. Joint-name coinages from small German principalities of this period were frequently superseded within months by revised dies reflecting new dynastic arrangements.
