| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a divided heraldic shield: the dexter half displays horizontal barry stripes representing the arms of Saxony-Lauenburg, while the sinister half bears a diagonal chevron or bend, referencing the personal arms of Bishop Erich of Sachsen-Lauenburg. Above the shield, the date letters Z Z (interpreted as the year 1522 in the local dating convention) are prominently displayed in Gothic script, flanking a small cross or floral ornament at the top center. The entire design is contained within a plain inner circle, surrounded by a beaded or irregularly serrated border typical of hammered bracteate-style Pfennige of the period. The strike is characteristic of early sixteenth-century Westphalian mint work, with a slightly irregular planchet edge. |
