| Additional information |
Franz Herrmann's machine works in the Bayenthal district of Cologne issued this zinc notgeld piece during the acute small-change shortage that followed World War I, when German municipal and commercial authorities resorted to locally produced tokens to keep wages and canteen transactions moving on factory floors. Private industrial issuers like Herrmann operated almost entirely outside state monetary oversight during this window.
