| Obverse description | Octagonal zinc notgeld token with a plain raised numeral '1' prominently centered in the field, denoting the denomination of one Pfennig. Surrounding the central numeral, the two-line inscription 'BERLIN-W' appears immediately above the digit, while a circular legend reading 'KAUFHAUS DES WESTENS G•M•B•H•' runs along the inner periphery, separated from the outer border by a ring of raised beads. A small five-pointed star punctuates the legend at the base. The entire design is enclosed by a secondary outer ring of raised dot groups, following each facet of the octagonal flan. |

| Reverse description | The reverse is identical in design to the obverse, featuring the large raised numeral '1' at center with the two-line text 'BERLIN-W' positioned above it within the inner field. The circular legend 'KAUFHAUS DES WESTENS G•M•B•H•' encircles the central motif, punctuated at the base by a small five-pointed star. An inner ring of evenly spaced raised beads borders the legend, while a further outer ring of raised dot clusters follows the contour of each of the eight sides of the flan, reflecting the medal alignment of the token. |

| Additional information |
The Kaufhaus des Westens — KaDeWe — issued its own internal coinage for use within the department store, a practice common among large German commercial establishments in the early twentieth century as a means of managing employee canteen transactions and controlling internal spending. These zinc pieces circulated exclusively on the premises, redeemable only at designated counters, and were never legal tender in any form.
Zinc composition points to a wartime or immediate postwar production window, when copper and nickel were restricted or unavailable for non-state minting.
