Obverse description A standing wild man (Wilder Mann), the traditional heraldic supporter of Brunswick, depicted facing, clad in a garment of leaves or foliage, with one hand on his hip and the other grasping an uprooted tree or club planted at his side. The figure stands on a rocky or uneven ground line, rendered in a vigorous baroque engraving style. The mintmaster's initials E·P·H· appear in the exergue below the central device, separated by pellets.
