Obverse description Octagonal zinc Notgeld token with a central circular hole piercing the field. The municipal shield of Apolda occupies the central device, rendered in low relief and partially obscured by the perforation. A continuous border of raised pearls (beaded rim) runs along the inner edge of all eight sides. The curved legend STADT APOLDA arcs across the upper portion of the coin between the beaded border and the central shield.

Reverse description Plain octagonal field featuring a large numeral '1' in the centre, bisected by the central circular hole. A continuous beaded border follows the inner periphery of all eight sides. The circular legend reads KRIEGSNOTGELD 1918 along the upper arc and 1 ● PFENNIG ● along the lower arc, with pellet stops separating the denomination elements, all in incuse Latin lettering.
