Obverse description A heraldic lion rampant to left, displayed within a shield occupying the central field. Surrounding the shield in the background is an anchor cross (Ankerkreuz), a cross terminating in anchor-shaped ends, a characteristic device associated with the Bamberg bishopric coinage of the period. The overall design is executed in the flat, schematic style typical of hammered bracteate-influenced pfennig coinage of the mid-fifteenth century.
Obverse script Latin
