| Additional information |
A privately issued notgeld token from Alfeld, a small industrial town on the Leine river in Lower Saxony. C. Behrens was almost certainly a local merchant or tradesman issuing fractional scrip to address the chronic small-change shortages that plagued German commerce during the First World War, when zinc and other base metals were being commandeered for munitions production — the same material these tokens were struck from.
