Obverse description The heraldic griffin of Rostock, passant and facing left, is depicted in the central field within a raised inner circle. The creature is rendered in low relief with its wings partially raised, serving as the civic arms of the city. The circumferential legend ROSTOCKER MUNZE runs around the periphery of the coin, separated from the central device by the inner beaded or raised border.

Two small stars flank the upper portion of the design, serving as decorative punctuation marks. A mintmaster's monogram appears in the lower exergual area. The overall composition is simple and utilitarian, consistent with late eighteenth-century German municipal copper coinage.
