Obverse description The municipal arms of Magdeburg displayed prominently in the field: a divided shield featuring the characteristic horizontal barry pattern of the city, surmounted by an eagle displayed — the traditional heraldic device of Magdeburg. The overall design is rendered in the crude but vigorous style typical of small hammered German Pfennig coinage of the late 17th century. No legend is present on this side. The coin is struck on a thin, irregular flan with a beaded border visible along the rim.
