Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections bearing a key between two coastal promontories, a royal palm tree, and diagonal blue and white stripes representing the Cuban flag. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap atop a pole, symbolising liberty, and is flanked by symmetrical sprays of laurel and oak branches. Two five-pointed stars appear at the lower left and right of the field. The legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 1 PESO is inscribed in the lower exergual area.
