| Obverse description | The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring the traditional shield with a royal palm, rising sun, and key, flanked by a fasces and an oak branch. The circular legend 'REPUBLICA DE CUBA' arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '1 PESO' appears along the lower periphery. Two five-pointed stars flank the denomination on either side. The design follows the standard Cuban peso type established in the early twentieth century. |

| Additional information |
Cuba's 1986 Olympic series was produced for the Seoul 1988 Games, issued two years ahead of competition as part of a broader hard-currency export strategy — collector coins were among the few reliable sources of foreign exchange available to the Castro government during the period of chronic trade imbalance following Soviet subsidy adjustments. The "with rings" distinction separates this type from a parallel issue struck without the Olympic rings, a variation that created two catalogued types from what was otherwise a single minting program.
