| Reverse description | Three caravel ships of Columbus's 1492 fleet are depicted in high relief sailing on stylized ocean waves across the central field: the flagship Santa María, rendered in the largest scale at center, is flanked by the Pinta to the left and the Niña to the right, each vessel rendered with fine detail showing rigging, sails, and the cross of the Order of Christ on the mainsail of the Santa María. The circumferential legend 'V CENTENARIO DEL DESCUBRIMIENTO Y EVANGELIZACION DE AMERICA' arcs around the upper and lateral periphery, commemorating the fifth centenary of the discovery and evangelization of America.
