Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a shield divided into three sections: the upper portion displaying a key between two promontories over blue waves, the lower left quadrant showing a golden rising sun over a landscape with a royal palm tree, and the lower right quadrant bearing diagonal blue and white stripes. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap upon a fasces, and flanked by two laurel branches tied at the base. A five-pointed star appears at each side of the lower field. The legend 'REPUBLICA DE CUBA' arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '1 PESO' is inscribed along the lower border.
