Colombia's first years as an independent republic were administratively fractured — the Bogotá, Popayán, and Caracas mints all operated under the same national authority but with inconsistent quality controls, and the 1 Peso gold denomination was produced across multiple of these facilities during this window. The Hernández references 808–810 distinguish between mint sources, making provenance identification essential rather than incidental for this type.
The .875 fineness follows the Spanish colonial standard deliberately retained by the new republic to maintain trade continuity with established commercial partners who knew and trusted the old assay system.
