| Obverse description | Bare-headed bust of Rafael Carrera facing left, modeled in high relief with finely detailed hair and a small goatee beard, occupying the majority of the field. A circular legend runs along the periphery within a toothed border, and the engraver's signature FRENER F. appears in small capitals at the base of the truncation. The portrait is rendered in a neoclassical medallic style characteristic of mid-19th-century European die-cutting. |
