Obverse description Bare-headed draped bust of Rafael Carrera facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and short beard. The circumferential legend reads R. CARRERA FUNDADOR DE LA RCA. DE GUATEMALA, separated by the portrait. The engraver's signature FRENER F. appears in small incuse letters at the base of the neck truncation. The overall design is of neoclassical style, characteristic of European die-engraving of the mid-nineteenth century.

Reverse description The Guatemalan coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a volcanic landscape flanked by crossed rifles and swords, with a quetzal bird perched at the base and a radiant sun rising above a shield bearing a harp. Two scrolled ribbons bearing the inscriptions GUATEMALA PROTECCION and REPUBLICA surround the central device. The fineness designation 10D.20G. appears to the left and the date to the right, with the denomination UN PESO. inscribed in the lower exergual area. A toothed border frames the entire design.
