Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: the upper portion bears a rising sun over a sea passage between two headlands, the lower left displays the national flag, and the lower right shows a royal palm tree set against mountains. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap upon a pike and flanked by sprigs of oak and laurel bound at the base. Two five-pointed stars appear in the field to either side at mid-height. The legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA curves along the upper periphery, and the denomination 1 PESO is inscribed along the lower rim.
