Obverse description The obverse features the Mexican Republican eagle displayed facing left, perched atop a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, with a serpent clutched in its beak and talons in the characteristic national arms composition. The wings are spread wide in high relief, rendered with fine feather detail. The legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA arcs along the upper periphery, and the date 1869 appears in the lower exergual area. An olive and oak branch frame the base of the cactus, and a beaded border encircles the design.
