| Obverse description | Central field depicts the Mexican national arms: the classic eagle displayed perched upon a cactus rising from a rocky outcrop surrounded by water, grasping a serpent in its beak and talon. The eagle faces sinister with wings spread in the traditional heraldic style. Flanking the central device at the base are sprigs of oak and laurel joined by a ribbon. The circumferential legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs across the upper field, while a continuous decorative chain-link border frames the entire design. |

| Reverse description | Central field features a bold right-facing profile portrait of an indigenous figure, rendered in a monumental sculptural style reminiscent of pre-Columbian stonework, wearing a traditional headdress. To the left of the portrait the denomination mark '$1' is inscribed in a stylized form. The date 1979 appears prominently in the lower field beneath the portrait. The mintmark 'Mo' is positioned to the upper right of the central device. A decorative chain-link border surrounds the entire design consistent with the obverse. |
