Colombia's Banco de la República began printing its own notes domestically in earnest from the 1950s onward, reducing its long dependence on foreign security printers — American Bank Note Company and Thomas De La Rue among them. The Imprenta de Billetes in Bogotá took on production of this series, an institutional decision as much as a logistical one.
The 1 Peso Oro ran for nearly two decades across multiple date varieties, making it one of the longer-lived small denominations in the republic's mid-century issues. Watermark security only — no security thread, no fluorescent ink — reflects the modest threat profile assigned to a note of this face value at the time.
