Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three sections: the upper portion features a golden key between two rocky promontories representing the Straits of Florida, the upper-left section displays a striped field with a royal palm, and the lower section shows alternating blue and white horizontal stripes. A Phrygian cap surmounts the crest atop the shield, and the whole is flanked by two olive and oak branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery, with a five-pointed star at each lateral extremity, while the denomination 1 PESO appears in the lower field beneath the arms.
