Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield quartered with a golden key between two rocky promontories over a blue sea in the upper portion, a sun rising over a landscape in the upper dexter, and blue and white diagonal stripes in the lower portion, surmounted by a Phrygian cap atop a fasces. The shield is flanked by an oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right, bound at the base. The curved legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery in Latin capitals, while the denomination 1 PESO appears in the lower field beneath the arms.
