Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield divided into three quarters: the upper left bearing a golden key between two rocky promontories on a blue sea, the upper right showing a sun rising over a landscape with a royal palm tree, and the lower half displaying three blue and white diagonal stripes. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap set upon a golden star, and flanked by an oak branch to the right and a laurel branch to the left, both tied at the base. The arc legend 'REPUBLICA DE CUBA' runs along the upper periphery in raised Latin lettering, while the denomination '1 PESO' appears in the lower field beneath the arms.

Reverse description The reverse features a stylized color-applied world map rendered in the field, depicting the continents in outline against the coin's metallic surface, with blue coloring applied to highlight selected geographic areas. Across the lower portion of the map, the word 'globalización' is inscribed in large, prominent blue-colored lettering in a bold sans-serif font. Along the upper arc of the field, the legend 'II Encuentro Internacional de Economistas' appears in smaller raised Latin lettering. Below the central design, the event dates 'del 24 al 29 de enero del 2000' are inscribed in two lines, denoting the conference period of 24 to 29 January 2000.
