| Obverse description | The Cuban national coat of arms is displayed prominently in the center of the field, depicting the traditional shield with a royal palm, rising sun, and key, supported by an oak branch and laurel wreath. A curved legend along the upper periphery bears the country name, while the face value is inscribed in the lower portion of the field. All lettering is rendered in Latin characters. |

Cuba issued a run of novelty pesos throughout the late 1990s targeting the international collector market rather than domestic circulation — hard currency was the real goal, and these pieces were sold abroad at multiples of face value. Twipsy, the animated mascot of Hanover's Expo 2000, was licensed across dozens of countries' commemorative programs in the lead-up to the exposition, making this one of the stranger diplomatic-commercial arrangements of the period.
