| Obverse description | Against a mirror-like proof field, the obverse presents the denomination and country name in bold, sans-serif capital lettering arranged in three horizontal lines across the coin's face. Issued in 2006 to mark the 25th anniversary of Argentina's return to constitutional democracy following the 1976–1983 military dictatorship, during which an estimated 30,000 people were forcibly disappeared. The Madres de Plaza de Mayo had been circling the Plaza since 1977, and their Thursday marches became the defining act of resistance against the junta's systematic disappearances.
The BCRA's commemorative program of this period leaned heavily on human rights themes as democratic institutions worked to consolidate the post-dictatorship legal reckoning — the same year this coin was struck, the Supreme Court declared the amnesty laws of the 1980s unconstitutional, reopening prosecutions.
