Additional information

The XI Central American and Caribbean Games were held in Santiago de los Caballeros in 1986 — the first time the Dominican Republic had hosted the event. The government used the occasion to issue a series of commemorative coins, a common regional practice for host nations during the 1980s when such programs generated both hard currency and national prestige.

KM#65b is the copper-nickel variant within a multi-composition release, distinguished from the silver proof strikes intended for collector markets abroad.
