Reverse description Central device depicts a Phrygian cap of liberty set upon a radiating sunburst, the rays extending nearly to the beaded rim and filling the entire field. The word LIBERTAD is inscribed on a band across the cap. The denomination UN PESO and mint and assayer details appear in a curved legend along the lower periphery of the coin, with the date 1917 also incorporated into the legend. The overall design follows the standard Mexican cap-and-rays type employed on Republican coinage of the period.
