Banco Solanas y Cía. was one of several short-lived private commercial banks operating in Bolivia during the 1870s, a decade when the national government had not yet established a central issuing authority and private banks filled the void under relatively permissive banking legislation. Most of these institutions collapsed or were absorbed before the turn of the century, and their paper rarely survived in any quantity — notes were either redeemed and destroyed or simply lost to time in a country where archival preservation was not a priority.

PS#1915 is among the scarcer private Bolivian issues of the period. Thin documentation on Solanas y Cía. itself makes attribution of the printer uncertain.
