Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a shield divided into three quarters: the upper portion displaying a rising sun over a sea between two capes, the lower-left quarter bearing diagonal blue and white stripes representing the original Cuban provinces, and the lower-right quarter depicting a royal palm tree. The shield is surmounted by a Phrygian cap on a fasces and a five-pointed star, flanked on the left by a branch of oak and on the right by a branch of laurel, with crossed cannon barrels at the base. The legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, with the denomination 1 PESO inscribed in the lower field beneath the arms.
